Hidden gem in Yangjiang: Come to this coastal town to enjoy the sea and food

In the southeast of Yangdong District, Guangdong's Yangjiang City lies Dongping, a coastal town cradled by bays and lush landscapes. The town boasts a national central fishing port—Dongping Fishing Port; a national 4A tourist attraction—Da'ao Fishing Village; the country's first museum dedicated to fishing culture, and the romantic Pearl Bay beach. Here, visitors can indulge in the sounds of the sea, wade in the waves, savor delicious food, and relax in distinctive B&Bs, slowing down to unwind and refresh.

Dongping is rich in fresh and delicious produce. From jellyfish salad to steamed pork belly with Da'ao shrimp paste, the various seafood dishes are mouth-watering. In addition, the Yangjiang specialty, Dongping chicken rice, has become one of Dongping's "food trademarks".

In mid-July, driving towards Dongping, you will see nearly 50 acres of blooming lotus flowers in Kouyang Village near the entrance, next to Yuanyangshi Park.

Heading further takes you to the historically rich 4A tourist attraction Da'ao Fishing Village, once a transit port along the ancient Maritime Silk Route of China. On the streets stand more than 80 intact Tanka (a traditional water-dwelling ethnic group in southern China) houses, a fisherman-themed folk museum of Da'ao Fishing Village, a shipbuilding art exhibition hall, a shrimp-paste making hall, an ancient chamber of commerce, and other attractions that preserve the essence of Tanka culture.

Catching seafood is one of the must-do activities for visitors to Dongping. During the summer holidays, many tourists have already brought their children to a stretch of sea in Beihuan Village, Dongping, to gather the ocean's bounty and experience the unique romance of this coastal town.
