Railway passenger volume in Guangdong reached 18.67 million during the National Day holiday

According to the China Railway Guangzhou Group, during the National Day holiday, a total of 18.67 million train passengers traveled over the seven-day period. This marks an increase of 640,000 compared to last year, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 3.6%. On October 1, the passenger flow peaked at 3.165 million , setting a new historical record for train travel.

The group's passenger department noted that the primary purposes of travel were tourism and family visits, with train travel being the preferred mode among students, business travelers, and labor travelers. The passenger flow was highly concentrated at the beginning and end of the holiday, with early departures peaking and return flows increasing towards the end. On October 8, a substantial return flow was expected, with an estimated 2.095 million train passengers.

High-speed rail remained the preferred choice for 79.6% of train travelers, totaling 14.86 million passengers, while regular trains accounted for 20.4%, or 3.81 million passengers. The busiest train stations were Guangzhou South, Changsha South, and Shenzhen North, serving 2.459 million, 1.793 million, and 1.356 million train passengers, respectively. The top three train routes were the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway, and the Hangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway, with passenger volumes of 2.181 million, 2.226 million, and 1.34 million, respectively. The newly opened Meilong High-Speed Railway transported 131,000 passengers during this holiday.

Throughout the holiday, the Guangzhou Railway Group operated an average of 3,326 passenger trains daily, along with an additional 329 trains. The peak day for train operations was October 7, with 3,455 trains running, marking an increase of 194 trains compared to last year, which is a 5.9% rise.
