On May 14, Guangdong Province in the South of China announced a series of pilot projects for its new pattern of urbanization in 15 counties, including Jiaoling county of Meizhou, Haifeng county of Shanwei, and Gaozhou of Maoming, encouraging the counties to develop signature industries based on their strengths.
The announcement was made at the opening ceremony for an exploration tour to see the province's solution for new productive forces. Over 100 representatives from 21 national and local media outlets embarked on the journey in Guangzhou, spending a week to tour several mainland GBA cities, including Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
Guangdong Province, an economic powerhouse in South China, aims to boost new productive forces in industries including agriculture, manufacturing, and services with an emphasis on the combination of sci-tech innovation and industrial development this year.
Regarding the rural areas, Guangdong plans to focus on developing the unique strengths of each county and nurturing industries with competitive advantages. Coastal counties are encouraged to promote ocean-related sectors such as port logistics, marine energy, and coastal tourism and to build a modern ocean-based economy. Mountainous counties will prioritize integrating agriculture, culture, and tourism, developing eco-friendly agriculture, green industries, and eco-tourism. Agricultural counties will cultivate signature products such as tropical fruits and vegetables, rice, tea, flowers, livestock, and aquatic products.
Moreover, the 15 counties will gain support to improve the construction of basic infrastructure and enhance public services such as employment, education, healthcare, and elderly care, aiming to strengthen the counties' ability to radiate benefits to surrounding rural areas.
