Over 80,000 tons of imported cherries on nine Cherry Express vessels from Chile will be unloaded at Nansha Port in Guangzhou before the Chinese Lunar New Year in 2024, according to Guangzhou Customs on December 21.

On the evening of December 20, the first Cherry Express loaded with imported Chilean cherries arrived at Nansha Port,with the first shipment of cherries for South China this winter. Under the supervision of Nansha Customs House, 238 containers of Chilean cherries weighing about 4,800 tons were unloaded and transported to fruit wholesale markets in southern China.
Fang Wenxia, assistant to the president of Shenzhen Asia Global Fresh Supply Chain (Group) Co., Ltd., said that the 4,800 tons of cherries include a variety of Labins and Santina. In addition to Guangzhou, the cherries will also be distributed to wholesale markets across the country within 24 hours.

Starting from December 20, 2023, to the end of January 2024, there will be at least one shipment of Chilean cherries every week arriving at Nansha Port.
In recent years, Chilean cherries have gained immense popularity among consumers. The amount of Chilean cherries imported to China has increased. Around November every year, Chilean cherries, which are mainly transported by air, are available in Chinese markets. In December, large quantities of Chilean cherries are transported to China by sea.
According to Guangzhou Customs, Nansha Port has become the port with the largest import volume of cherries on the Chinese mainland since 2022. In addition to Chilean cherries, fresh products such as Thai durian, Cambodian longan, and Vietnamese pangasius are also imported from Nansha Port in 2023.
