Guangzhou welcomes new forest park, scheduled to open in May next year

Liupian Mountain (六片山) is set to be transformed into a forest park with comprehensive functions and is expected to open to the public in May next year.

Liupian Mountain, which used to house a quarry, had a massive abandoned pit. However, rainwater accumulated in the pit, forming a unique “Heavenly Lake”, which has gone viral online.

The rugged mountain trails have been transformed into stone-brick pathways, while the barren wasteland now boasts lush green lawns.

The forest park is expected to become a resort for mountain and outdoor sports, leisure tours, sightseeing, natural education, and wellness tourism.

Covering an expansive area of nearly 4,000 mu (about 267 hectares), the forest park will be endowed with abundant natural resources in its surrounding areas. It will serve as a crucial ecological barrier for Guangzhou City.
The forest coverage rate of the park will be more than 91.54 percent. The annual average negative oxygen ion concentration is expected to reach 3,000 ions/cm³, while in certain areas, it can reach as high as 10,000 ions/cm³.

Highlight 1: adventure fitness center

Aiming to create a unique fitness destination, the priority of the forest park project is to improve tourist services and infrastructure, especially the renovation of the mountain trails.

Highlight 2: natural stone wonderland

The forest park will be home to a rich assortment of rocks, varying in size and shape. By arranging the surrounding greenery, the distinctive natural rocks can be accentuated, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic views.

Highlight 3: natural wildlife and plantmuseum

A diverse range of seasonal vegetation types, as well as a count of up to 106 animal species, can be found in the park.
