The Langcang-Mekong Fruit Industry Development Workshop was held in the Nansha District of Guangzhou on May 10.
During the event, the Lancang-Mekong Agriculture Cooperation Center released the "Report on the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong Region (2022-2023)", marking the fourth year the center has published an annual development report on agricultural cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region.
The report focused on the corn and cassava industries, providing a detailed analysis of the cultivation, investment, and trade of these two crops in the Lancang-Mekong region.
Two other conferences were held on the same day, the Lancang-Mekong and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cross-border E-commerce Matchmaking Activity and the Lancang-Mekong Fruit Gathering aka Pre-prepared Food Product Import and Export Trade Promotion Conference.
These activities aimed to strengthen exchanges in the fruit industry and facilitate cooperation among enterprises. In addition, the e-commerce platform Tmall will open a special section for Lancang-Mekong fruits in May.
"At this workshop, we have established connections with numerous enterprises. We are looking forward to selling cherry tomatoes from Nansha to Southeast Asian countries," said Tian Huiyao, vice general manager of Guangzhou Lvheng Tomato Technology Industry Development Co., Ltd., who brought the company's unique tomato varieties to the event.
Guangdong is a major province in China to produce, consume, and trade in agricultural products. Through Lancang-Mekong agricultural cooperation, the trade of durian, dragon fruit, mango, mangosteen from Southeast Asia and litchi, pineapple, citrus, and pomelo from Guangdong was boosted.
Representatives who participated in the workshop were from countries along the Mekong River, and from embassies and consulates of ASEAN countries in China, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and agricultural and rural departments of provinces (cities), Guangzhou Nansha District Government, the Nansha District's Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, as well as research institutions, enterprises, and Hong Kong and Macao.
The workshop was hosted by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and organized by the Guangzhou Nansha District People’s Government, Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangzhou, and the International Agricultural Economy and Farmer Cooperation Promotion Center of Guangdong Province.
