Global Unicorn Index includes 7 Huangpu-based enterprises in Guangzhou

On April 9th, the 10th Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference China was held at the Convention Center in the Guangzhou Fair Complex. On the same afternoon, the 2024 Global Unicorn CEO Conference unveiled the Global Unicorn Index 2024 in the Guangzhou Development District/Huangpu District.

During the Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference, the Guangzhou Development District/Huangpu District simultaneously announced 10 landmark projects. Among them, the BeiGene biopharmaceutical production base project, LG Display's 8.5th-generation OLED project, CVTE's global headquarters base project, CanSemi's 12-inch chip manufacturing project, and XPeng's smart EV manufacturing base project are all valued at over ten billion yuan. Notably, LG Display's Guangzhou OLED project, TCL CSOT T9 Project, CanSemi's 12-inch chip manufacturing project, and LuxVisions Innovation's national headquarters project stand out with investments reaching up to ten billion yuan.

Up to now, the Guangzhou Development District/Huangpu District has attracted over 5,000 foreign-funded enterprises, with the actual utilization of foreign investment growing from approximately $18 billion in 2015 to nearly $39 billion. This represents nearly half of the total foreign investment in actual use in Guangzhou, while their industrial output accounts for around 40% of the city's total.

During the conference, the HuRun Research Institute officially released the Global Unicorn Index 2024. According to the report, in comparison to last year, Guangzhou has demonstrated an increase in its representation on the current list from 22 to 24 unicorn companies, matching the number of France.

Among them, Huangpu District embraces the highest number of selected enterprises among all districts in Guangzhou, accounting for 7 companies and 29.2% of the total listed companies in the city. The Huangpu companies on the list are WeRide, Duoyi Network, CanSemi, LuxVisions Innovation, Aulton New Energy Automotive Technology, Ruqi Mobility (Ontime), and Yunzhou Biosciences (Guangzhou).

The inclusion of global unicorns in this event highlights the industrial layout of the Guangzhou Development District/Huangpu District. Currently, the district is catching up with the new trend of scientific and technological innovation, with a focus on high-tech fields supported by the nation such as electronic information, biotechnology and new pharmaceutical technology, aerospace technology, and new materials technology.

For this year's Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference, Guangzhou held six overseas sessions, three of which were organized by the Guangzhou Development District/Huangpu District in Tokyo (Japan), Singapore, and Frankfurt (Germany).

At the Frankfurt session in Germany, SUNLUX IOT Technology (Guangdong) Inc., a Huangpu company, signed the "Sino-Europe Intelligent Network Innovation Center Cooperation Agreement" with Sino-Europe (Duisburg) Innovation Center Co., Ltd.

At the Tokyo session in Japan, the district promoted the Sino-Japanese Future Industry Center located in the core area of the Guangzhou Science City. The center aims to create a comprehensive and integrated platform for practical and efficient investment promotion targeting Japan. It will serve as a hub radiating from Guangzhou to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and will introduce strategic emerging industries and large-scale enterprise headquarters projects tailored to the Japanese market.

At the Singapore session, Guangzhou extended an investment invitation to Singaporean companies, hoping to jointly develop intelligent connected vehicles, new energy vehicles, biopharmaceuticals, health industries, and other emerging industries. The city hopes to attract more Singaporean enterprises and talents to invest and start businesses in the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City.
