Holiday getaway | Understanding Guangzhou from illustrations

During the National Day holiday, when you come to Guangzhou's Tianhe District, you can not only shop and visit bookstores, but also see an illustration exhibition.

Lemon tea in a cup shaped like the Canton Tower, the Liede Bridge across the wonton noodles "Pearl River", and the awakened lion guarding the city......At Guangzhou Book Center, there is an exhibition showcasing around 200 paintings themed on "Understanding Guangzhou" by renowned Chinese illustrators and young artists.

On September 29, the "Understanding Guangzhou: China Illustration Annual Competition (CIAC) 2022" exhibition kicked off at Guangzhou Book Center. It is also one of the activities of the Second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Art Festival.

Launched in April 2022, the First CIAC has received a large number of brilliant contributions from all over the country and overseas Chinese. At the exhibition, in addition to the selected entries, there is also a special area showcasing the works of Cai Zhizhong, the first cartoonist in China, as well as internationally renowned Chinese illustrators, such as Ye Luying, Yao Li, Lu Mingshan, and Wang Xuemang. Among them, Cai Zhizhong's latest series of NFT Girls is on public display for the first time.

Jin Cheng, the Chairman of the Guangdong Cartoonists Association and Guangzhou Cartoonists Association, said, "We hope that we can explore the most unique, beautiful, and humane Chinese stories via illustration art."

Luo Chaoran, a young artist who attended the opening ceremony, couldn't hide his excitement, "I'm very excited that my work is exhibited in public for the first time. Thanks to the organizers for providing such a good platform and opportunity, which greatly stimulates us young cartoonists to continue to create."

It was reported that the organizers will also hold a series of illustration activities for the public, so that more fans will have the opportunity to closely enjoy these excellent illustrations.
