Original visual poetry by Spanish poet Joan Brossa exhibited in Guangzhou

An exhibition featuring the original visual poetry by Spanish poet Joan Brossa is being held at the Multiculture Library of Guangzhou Library, showcasing 34 Brossa’s visual poems and 3 picture albums. Paying homage to the vanguard artist, the exhibition will last until May 3, 2018.

The exhibition is co-hosted by Guangzhou Library, the Consulate General of Spain in Guangzhou and the Galería Miguel Marcos in Barcelona, Spain.

“2018 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain,” said Luo Xiaohong, Deputy Curator of Guangzhou Library, “Hopefully this exhibition can contribute to the cultural exchange between the two countries.”

Marcos Gomez Martinez, Consul General of Spain in Guangzhou, expressed that Chinese characters are unique, beautiful and their meanings are mysterious, passing on the beauty of Chinese civilization for thousands of years; he believed that Chinese audience will also find the visual poetry exhibition very interesting, because Brossa’s visual poems are reflection of the shape of Western characters.

Martinez also pointed out that as one of the most amazing cultural landmarks in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Library is the best venue to display these visual poems.
