On a jolly night of music on May 9, Swiss music group Sophie de Quay sang the Chinese song "The Moon Represents My Heart" along the Pearl River, kicking off its 2023 China tour with the first stop in Guangzhou.
In an interview with GDToday during the concert, Sophie, the band's lead singer, said the enthusiasm and hospitality of Guangzhou people had left a deep impression on her. She has been inspired by the locals and hopes to build bridges between different cultures through music.
"Before the official performance, we took a street show and sang Chinese songs on Shamian Island. We were surrounded by friendly people, and they took pictures and shot videos of our performances. An old Chinese man even accompanied us with his guitar."
The experience in Guangzhou gave Sophie a lot of creative inspiration. She introduced that she was born in Switzerland, but grew up in Singapore and New York, and lives in Paris and Shanghai. "For me, it's a real source of inspiration to meet new people and see how they live and think. I think that, to build a better world, it’s very important to build bridges between humans. It’s so interesting to meet people from different cultures. And I think it’s the beginning of a better world to build bridges.”

During the China tour, Sophie took a small notebook to record the interesting things and people she encountered in China.
"This is my memory book for China. Some people I met during the trip will also write some blessings to me in the book. Actually, I have learned Chinese at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. So I can read a little Chinese. I love Chinese. I think the language is beautiful, and I love the culture, the people and the food here," Sophie explained.
