Post-90s farmer dedicated to introducing Deqing Gonggan to the world

Chen Hui is the general manager of TOPCP, an ecological agriculture company based in Zhaoqing. After graduating from university in 2013, instead of staying in the city to earn her living, Chen came with her father to Zhaoqing's Deqing County to plant Gonggan (literally meaning tribute mandarin) as their own business.

In 2014, Chen established her own Gonggan demonstration base by acquiring and repairing abandoned orchards.

In their efforts to explore orchard planting techniques, Chen Hui together with her team controls the amount of chemically synthesized fertilizers, avoids using pesticides and herbicides, replenishes bio-organic fertilizers and microelements. Gradually, they have formed a complete set of technical models including soil restoration and treatment as well as zero pesticide residues. In this process, the Gonggan produced in their orchards features better taste and flavor.

"As new-generation farmers with a keen sense of market demands, we need to change the past practice of production before finding the market, and we should give the greatest priority to establishing our own brands and expanding the market for our products," said Chen Hui.

The company also actively explores deep processing and R&D while selling fresh fruits. It's expected that a series of new products such as the Gonggan-made tea and fruit wine will be available for sale at the end of next year.

"With a nature-cultivated planting process, the peels of Gonggan are edible and the fruits also highlights their pharmaceutical value."

Nowadays, Chen Hui's company owns nine orchards, covering a total area of 67 hectares.
