The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be held in Beijing from September 4 to 6, according to the second press briefing FOCAC held on Tuesday morning.
With the theme of "Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future," Chinese and African leaders will share friendship, discuss cooperation, and have a dialogue about the future.
Liu Yuxi, Special Representative of the Chinese Government for African Affairs, introduced the agenda of the summit and detailed the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation at the briefing.
Liu underscored that this is another reunion of the China-Africa family after the 2006 Beijing Summit, the 2015 Johannesburg Summit, and the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The event is also the largest home diplomacy held by China in recent years, with the most foreign leaders attending.
Many African leaders and the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) will lead delegations to attend the summit. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, as the special guest, along with representatives of relevant international and African regional organizations as observers, will also attend the summit events.
The summit plans to adopt two outcome documents, namely, a declaration and an action plan. The two documents aim to inherit and promote the concept of real, friendly, and honest, the correct concept of justice and interests, and the spirit of China-Africa friendly cooperation, and demonstrate the momentum of the "Global South" with China and Africa as important forces.
According to Liu, China and Africa hope to summarize experience, build consensus, and plan for the future during the summit. First, to move towards a new journey of jointly building a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future. Second, to gather new momentum for deepening cooperation between China and Africa in various fields. Third, to continue writing a new chapter in the friendship between the Chinese and African peoples.
Since its establishment in 2000, the FOCAC has always adhered to the principle of extensive consultation, joint construction and sharing, and has made gratifying achievements in the construction of the forum. It has become the golden signboard of China-Africa cooperation, acting as a banner for leading international cooperation with Africa and deepening cooperation in the Global South.
