As a cold wave sweeps across the northern regions, winter has sneaked in. While people in southern China, particularly in Guangdong, marvel at the snowy landscapes up north, northern tourists can't help but envy the warm sunshine of the south. Following Hainan province, Guangdong has become a popular destination attracting visitors from all over due to its coastal areas and hot springs.
Basking in the winter sun, strolling barefoot on the beach in dresses, and enjoying winter with temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius was the utmost expectation of Miss Chen, who just returned to Beijing after a trip to the islands of Zhuhai. It is also a common desire for many northern tourists in winter.
In an effort to attract more visitors to Guangdong for a warm winter experience, the local cultural and tourism departments have taken the initiative to promote the region's unique cultural and tourism resources in northern China. To this end, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Cultural and Tourism Promotion Event was successfully held on November 14th, 2023 in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province. The event extended a sincere invitation to the local populace of Daqing to appreciate the charm of Guangzhou and Zhanjiang while enjoying the tides of the sea.
According to a big data visualization platform in Guangdong, coastal cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhanjiang, Yangjiang, Shantou, and Jieyang have emerged as the top 10 favorite cities in Guangdong for tourists from Shandong.
Furthermore, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, in collaboration with Hong Kong, Macau, and Xinjiang, has launched ten premium routes within the Greater Bay Area, offering diverse experiences for visitors. These routes cover themes such as urban civilization, Lingnan history, technological innovation, coastal charm, ecological wellness, culinary culture, theme parks, and fashion trends. They not only showcase new and representative scenic spots and tourist attractions but also incorporate cultural activities and culinary recommendations, providing abundant choices for visitors to experience the culture and tourism of the Greater Bay Area.
Traditionally, the winter season is considered the off-peak period for coastal tourism in Guangdong. However, in recent years, many tourists from the north have flocked to Guangdong to escape the cold, resulting in a bustling off-peak season for coastal scenic areas. Data shows that in November 2019 alone, Huizhou Xunliao Bay, known for its coastal tourism, received approximately 153,600 visitors from Beijing, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Chongqing, Xi'an, and other cities in Northwest China. Since its "off-peak" season this year, Xunliao Bay has seen a continuous increase in visitors from northern China.
In the initial stages of development, Dinglong Bay in Zhanjiang City, which primarily targets these northern travellers, has carefully designed various activities with unique coastal characteristics, creating a winter vacation experience that is"more colorful, vibrant, close to the sea, and wellness-oriented." To become a year-round coastal destination of culture and tourism at a world-class level, Hailing Island has actively prepared its autumn and winter tourism market for visitors from all over.
