During 2024 Chinese New Year, Guangdong's highway traffic accounts for 20% of the national total

On February 18th, it was reported by the Department of Transport of Guangdong Provincial that during the 2024 Chinese New Year, the cumulative traffic volume on Guangdong's expressways reached 45.673 million vehicles, an 8.78% year-on-year increase, accounting for approximately one-fifth of the national total. Guangdong recorded a total of 19.1362 million passenger trips during the holiday, showing a 20.83% year-on-year growth and constituting around 7.27% of the national total.

The expressway network in Guangdong operated smoothly during the Chinese New Year this year. On February 17th, the peak travel day, the expressways in the province witnessed approximately 8.5789 million vehicles, a 23.58% year-on-year increase.

Throughout the Chinese New Year, Guangdong recorded 19.1362 million passenger trips in total. Among them, the road passenger volume was 8.0257 million, a 15.43% year-on-year increase. Railway passenger volume reached 7.6029 million, a remarkable growth of 49.16% year-on-year. Waterway passenger volume amounted to 1.6411 million, up by 36.91% year-on-year, while air passenger volume soared by 55.76% to 1.8665 million.

During the Chinese New Year, Qiongzhou Strait (north bank) witnessed 485,900 island-bound passenger trips, a 22.24% year-on-year increase, and 113,000 vehicles, a 13.3% year-on-year growth. Currently, all ports in Qiongzhou Strait are operating normally.

For the second half of the Chinese New Year travel period (February 17th to March 5th, a total of 18 days), it is expected that Guangdong will handle approximately 60.7325 million passenger trips, averaging around 3.37 million passengers per day, representing a 21.75% year-on-year increase. The estimated expressway traffic volume is about 131 million vehicles, with a 3.63% year-on-year increase. A minor traffic peak is expected after the Lantern Festival, around March 1st, with an estimated traffic volume of 7.71 million vehicles.
