Guangdong athletes make historic debut, eye medals at Asian Winter Games

February 12 marks a key day at the Harbin Asian Winter Games, with five gold medals up for grabs, including two in figure skating—ice dance and pairs. This year also marks Guangdong's first-ever participation in the Asian Winter Games, with skaters Xiao Zixi, He Linghao, and Dai Dawei, as well as 10 Guangdong players on the women's ice hockey team.

In figure skating, Xiao Zixi and He Linghao will compete in the ice dance free program after finishing fourth in the rhythm dance, aiming for a podium finish. In the men's singles event, Dai Dawei will also represent Guangdong. Over the past season, all three athletes have set record-breaking performances for the province in their respective events.

China's Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing, along with Xiao Zixi and He Linghao, are in contention, with Japan's skaters as their main rivals. Xiao and He have a strong chance to secure Guangdong's first-ever Asian Winter Games medal.
