On December 10, the 2023 Guangzhou Marathon started. This competition has two events: a marathon and a half-marathon, with a total of 30,000 participants. The starting point of the events is located at the South Square of Tianhe Sports Center. The endpoint is located at Huacheng Square, while the endpoint of the half-marathon is located on the east side of the north square of Area A of the Canton Fair Complex. The track follows the "one river and two banks" route and is known as the most beautiful track in Guangzhou.
The winner was determined first in the half marathon, with Sun Xiaoyang winning the men's championship and Huang Xuemei from Xiamen winning the women's championship.
Kenyan runner Moses Kibet won the men's marathon championship. His winning time was around 2 hours and 9 minutes, setting a record for second place in Guangzhou Marathon history.
Ethiopian athletes took the top three spots in the women's marathon. Gutney Shine Imana won the championship with a time of 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 30 seconds.
Currently, Ethiopian runner Gebretsak Abraham Adihana holds the best time in the history of the Guangzhou Marathon, with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 4 seconds.
