Currently, the design of the stadium is inspired by the jade pendant with an openwork dragon and phoenix pattern on the tomb of the Nanyue King, as well as the Guangzhou ivory carving, a national intangible cultural heritage that has been passed down for more than 2,000 years.
The stadium is located in Panyu District, Guangzhou, with a total land area of 189,000 square meters and a total construction area of 478,000 square meters. The main venues to be constructed include a professional football stadium, a fitness center, a sports commercial complex, and other ancillary supporting facilities.
After completion, the seating capacity of the football stadium will reach 73,000 seats (can be expanded to 75,000 seats). According to the official WeChat account of China Construction Fourth Bureau, this project is one of the largest professional football stadiums in China that can host intercontinental events. The seating capacity will become one of the top ten in the world and the second largest in Asia. It will become a professional football venue that meets the standards of the Club World Cup and the World Cup semi-finals.

Various functions are intensively distributed on each floor, creating an efficient, intensive, and organic stadium. The second underground floor of the football stadium is a garage, the first underground floor includes a sports function room, VIP foyer, and commercial area. The first floor above ground is for guests, private box foyer, and commercial area, the second floor is for guest areas, private rooms, and commercial area, and the third and fourth floors are for audience distribution platform, reception area for guests, media area, and sports light meal retail area.

The predecessor of the Guangzhou Football Park project was the Guangzhou Evergrande Football Stadium project. On April 16, 2020, construction of the Guangzhou Evergrande Football Stadium started. However, it has been stalled due to Evergrande Group's own liquidity problems.
