Guangdong team wins Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup again after 7 years

On February 7th, the second round of the 42nd Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup Football Tournament was played at the Yuexiushan Stadium in Guangzhou. The Guangdong team defeated the Chinese Hong Kong team 3-1 with goals from Xiao Zhi, Chen Zhechao, and Liao Junjian, bringing the total score to a tie of 3-3. In the subsequent penalty shootout, the Guangdong team won 4-2 and regained the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup title after 7 years.

After losing 0-2 to the Chinese Hong Kong team in the first round, the Guangdong team needed to win by at least two goals at the Yuexiushan Stadium in order to win the game.
The Guangdong team's strategy of quickly seizing the initiative paid off. In the 6th minute, Xiao Zhi scored a goal, but it was ruled as a handball. One minute later, Xiao Zhi responded to a cross from the left and scored a header, bringing the total score to 1-2.
In the 25th minute, the Chinese Hong Kong team took advantage of a free kick in the front court to equalize the score.

In the 40th minute, the Guangdong team's Liang Xueming's shot was blocked, but Chen Zhechao scored from the rebound, and the Guangdong team took the lead again.
In the 66th minute, the Guangdong team's central defender Liao Junjian scored a goal, bringing the total score to 3-3.
When the game went into overtime, neither team scored, and the game went into a penalty shootout. In the shootout, the Chinese Hong Kong team's Chen Kaibo and Ye Zhuowen both missed their penalty kicks, while the Guangdong team converted all of their shots and won the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup again after 7 years.
