Guangdong plans to invest 300 million yuan in 2024 to support the renovation of sports facilities and venues in 552 primary and secondary schools in 14 cities.
The Department of Education of Guangdong Province made the decision in the Implementation Plan of Supporting the Construction and Renovation of School Sports Facilities in East, West and North Guangdong.
The 14 cities include Shantou, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, Shanwei, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Maoming, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Chaozhou, Jieyang, and Yunfu.

The renovation is one of the key measures of the "High-quality Development Project for Counties, Towns and Villages". It will effectively improve the daily physical education and extracurricular activities of rural students.
The education department will keep track of where the money is going with the finance department and other relevant bureaus. Performance evaluation will also be conducted. For example, all schools should take overall pictures of the sports venues before and after the renovation and submit them to the provincial education department.
In 2022 and 2023, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province invested a total of 135 million yuan to renovate the sports venues of 206 rural primary schools in five cities, including Heyuan and Yunfu.
