Chinese and Russian students celebrate Chinese New Year with residents

The 2024 Longgang Spring Festival Flower Market officially kicked off at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University on February 3, which marked the Xiao Nian Festival or "Minor New Year" in the Chinese lunar calendar. The flower market will last for 7 days and end on February 9 (Chinese New Year's Eve).

Adorned with gorgeous flowers, the university was crowed withresidents and students from different countries on the opening day. People purchased New Year presents and Russian-style gifts, experienced the on-campus canteen, and enjoyed the Russian-style architecture.

Two major exhibitions are also launched during the 7-day flower market— The Footsteps of Time: Cultural Heritages of the Calendar and The Cultural Spirit of the City: Belt and Road Sino-Russian International Painting Art Exhibition. The calendar exhibition displays about 50 to 80 calendar artifacts and many digital derivatives on the first floor of the university auditorium. The painting exhibition displays more than 60 artworks in the exhibition hall of the university's main building, all from contemporary Chinese and Russian painters. Over 100 artworks were exhibited in the form of albums.

In addition to selling traditional New Year flowers and oranges, the market also set up different functional areas such as Shenzhen MSU-BIT University cultural and creative products, Russian-style goods, food, and children's play areas. The school gate and its main building were decorated with a 5-meter-high red dragon and the university's mascot "MoMo Bear", symbolizing the new year's progress. Some landmark buildings, such as the China-Russia Friendship Corridor, the Central Square complex, and Swan Lake, have also attracted many families and residents to stop for a picture.

Shenzhen MSU-BIT University rolled out a "New Year Campus Card" during the event, which will showcase eight special spots, including the library, school history museum, exhibition hall, and automobile show. Visitors can stamp their card at each spot and then participate in an on-site lucky draw game with the card stamped with 8 marks. Prizes include tickets to the "Bay Glory" Ferris Wheel, limited cultural and creative products of the university, and more. The winning rate will be 100%!

During the flower market, people can enter the campus without a reservation. All activities will be free and open to visitors.
