The Guangdong railway system handled 12.458 million passenger trips during the five-day May Day holiday travel rush from May 1 to May 5, according to the data from China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd. (CR Guangzhou).
To ease the traffic pressure, the railway authorities added a total of 1,350 trains during the holiday, including 339 slow-speed trains and 1,011 high-speed trains.
Generally speaking, the railway operation was very smooth and orderly throughout the holiday. The passenger flow peaked on May 1, with a total of 2.929 million railway trips. The return travel rush is expected on May 6, with an estimated 2.106 million passenger trips.
