Vlog | What’s Shenzhen's oldest international school like? Take a peek at SIS's 35th anniversary

Shenzhen Shekou, the birthplace of China's reform and opening-up, is also the region with the densest distribution of foreign investors and expatriates in Shenzhen.

On this land, symbolizing "daring to be the first in the world," stands the first international school in Shenzhen's history - Shekou International School (SIS). Over the past 35 years of development, it has provided high-quality international education to attract and retain foreign-funded enterprises and foreign talent in Shenzhen.

Not long ago, this school celebrated its 35th anniversary. "Shenzhen's history is only a little over 40 years old, while Shekou International School has been established for 35 years. We have grown together with this city," said Harish Kanabar, Head of  SIS, at the anniversary ceremony.

He showed the audience the school's journey through the years: In 1988, when the school was first established, it only had 12 students from two countries. After 35 years of development, it has over 1,100 students from 43 countries, making it the most internationalized school in Shenzhen.

"When people come and attend this school, they are not just attending a school in Shenzhen, but a school that belongs to the world," said Matthew Doige, Secondary Principal of SIS. This is not only because the school's students come from all over the world but also because of its internationalized education. The school adopts the International Baccalaureate (IB) teaching curriculum, which enables students to achieve the highest possible academic standards and ensures their comprehensive development and growth.

It is worth mentioning that the school is not only a certified PYP (Primary Years Programme) and DP (Diploma Programme) school, by the end of the next academic year, it will become a complete continuous IB education school. At the same time, the school has also launched French and Chinese international curriculum programmes to meet the growing needs of expatriates. Among them, the French International Programme has been operating for 15 years.

SIS currently has three campuses: the Jingshan Campus, the Bay Campus, and the Net Valley Campus, catering to early childhood, primary and secondary education, respectively. The anniversary ceremony was held at the Bay Campus. Join us in the video to unlock the beauty of this internationalized campus!
