June 8 marks "Cultural and Natural Heritage Day," and this year's theme is "Protecting Cultural Relics, Inheriting Civilization". Dongguan has launched a global campaign to collect "Memories of Dongguan", unearthing historical artifacts that bear witness to Dongguan's globalization process, in order to build a new Dongguan Museum based on the concept of "co-construction, co-ownership and sharing".

A cultural heritage donation event was held at the construction site of the new Dongguan Museum on June 8. Citizens from all walks of life, including art gallery directors, local entrepreneurs, collectors and concerned citizens ranging from university students to the elderly, donated their collections and offered suggestions to the museum. At the event, the museum representatives presented donation certificates to recent donors.

Li Hui, a family member of the late sculptor Li Hanyi, donated Li's sculpture work 《反弹琵琶》to the Dongguan Museum and also authorized the museum to permanently archive and reproduce Li's other Dongguan-themed sculptures, 《烽火年代》and《旗峰四英雄》. Li Hanyi, a native of Dongguan, was a professor and deputy director of the Sculpture Department at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

The New Style Art Museum in Dongguan's Nancheng District, which houses a large collection of Lingnan style art paintings and sculptures, also donated six of Li Hanyi's works, including《仿唐菩萨》 to the Dongguan Museum.

The Dongguan Museum, established in 1929, has been continuously enriched by donations from the public, which has become a hallmark of the museum.

The new museum building is currently under construction and is expected to open by the end of 2026.
