Since the Pazhou Ferry Terminal started trial operations on April 14th, 2023, the Guangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center Customs has seen over 110,000 inbound and outbound passengers, with the average daily number of passengers nearly twice as large as that in the initial period of the trial operation, reaching 330 people per day.
The 135th Canton Fair, which is held on April 15th on Pazhou Island in Guangzhou, brings about a peak in passenger clearance at the Pazhou Ferry Terminal, which is less than 100 meters away from the Canton Fair Complex.
"I came here for the 135th Canton Fair. I will purchase cell phone accessories, automotive interior decorations, and other products made in China. It takes me only five minutes to walk from the Terminal to the Canton Fair Complex. It's very convenient," said a purchaser from Switzerland. He added that during the Canton Fair, many overseas exhibitors from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) to Guangzhou will choose to enter and exit through the Pazhou Ferry Terminal in order to save travel time and cost.
The Pazhou Ferry Terminal is downtown Guangzhou's only passenger port to Hong Kong and Macao SARs. Connected with Hong Kong International Airport and the Hong Kong downtown area, the Terminal has accelerated the inter-connectivity and integrated development of the world-class city cluster and airport cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Currently, the number of round-trip passenger ships departing from the Pazhou Ferry Terminal to Hong Kong has increased from two to twelve per day.
"The Canton Fair usually leads to a significant peak in passenger flow at the Pazhou Ferry Terminal. During the 134th Canton Fair in the fall of 2023, the Terminal witnessed 10,000 inbound and outbound passengers and the highest daily passenger volume stood over 1,000." Mei Yizhi, a customs official with the Guangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center Customs, said that during the 135th Canton Fair, the Customs specifically set up a convenient channel for Canton Fair exhibitors to facilitate customs clearance.
Statistics show that since April 14th, 2023, the Guangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center Customs has seen over 3,000 inbound and outbound ships and over 117,000 inbound and outbound passengers through the Pazhou Ferry Terminal.
