A legless cobbler from Heyuan, South China's Guangdong Province, drew attention from Chinese netizens for sharing his life story in fluent English, he was appointed as a local 'ambassador' of China's Village Super League on Saturday, according to The Paper on Monday.
The cobbler, Huang Huaquan, expressed his dream of delivering a speech at the globally well-known Harvard University, according to The Paper.
"It was the summer when I was six years old. I was walking down the street when a speeding truck hit me from behind. The accident took both my legs. But what keeps me moving forward through adversity isn't just my hands. It's a strong heart that allows me to face life's challenges," Huang said in the video clip.
Despite his disability, Huang has not only supported himself through his shoe repair skills but has also excelled in sports, winning multiple medals in competitions. Huang was named a promotional ambassador for the Heyuan Heping division of the Village Super League on Saturday, The Paper said.
The Village Super League originated in Rongjiang County, Southwest China's Guizhou Province. Beyond the football matches, the Village Super League features a a wide range of ethnic cultural performances, according to Xinhua.
Previously, Huang represented Heyuan in several provincial Paralympic games in Guangdong, winning gold and silver medals in the events. His perseverance and achievements have earned him long-standing recognition and awards from local authorities over the years, according to the Guangdong Disabled Persons' Federation.
