The Shantou 2021 Asian Youth Games will be canceled, according to the latest announcement from the Olympic Council of Asia released last Friday (May 6).

The completed Asian Youth Games venues will be used for physical education and public sports, as well as This, related environmental enhancement projects will be implemented.
There were around 20 new and rebuilt facilities for the Asian Youth Games. In the initial planning, Shantou has considered the reuse of these venues after the games. The new main stadium and athletes’ village in the Overseas Chinese Economic and Cultural Cooperation Experimental Zone will be handed over to the East Campus of Shantou University for schooling. The Sports Industry Base on Nanbin Road is used as anew campus of Shantou Sports School for educational activities and daily training. The upgraded People's Stadium, which opened its athletic field to the public for free in August last year has become a popular destination for sports enthusiasts.
Shantou has also executed a project to improve the quality of the urban environment and encourage the enhancement of roadways, competition sites and important spots involved for the Asian Youth Games since the initial preparation. At the moment, 80 of the 90 rehabilitation and upgrading projects have been completed, with the remaining projects set to be done in the first half of this year. The Asian Youth Games Executive Committee in Shantou hasbegun to develop a follow-up disposal strategy, created a worklist, and implemented the treatment one by one.
