Hengqin gets ready for special customs operations

The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has completed the construction of the smart port public service platform and the repairing of electronic fences. The smart port public service platform started a trial operation on February 1, 2024.

"All software and hardware are qualified for tiered customs management and special customs operations in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin," said Fu Yongge, deputy director of the Executive Committee of the Cooperation Zone at a press conference for its special customs operations on February 19.

According to the press conference, 6 channels of the "second-tier" zone (an area between Hengqin and other areas within the Chinese mainland) have passed inspection from the national level. The positioning of the "second-tier" channels and the requirements that people and vehicles leaving the island need to meet were issued recently.

Now the Cooperation Zone is running comprehensive stress tests on the operation of the "second-tier" channels. It is also accelerating the construction of supporting information systems with the help of the smart port public service platform.

The platform can support tiered customs management with big data services and six major application systems, including public services, customs clearance facilitation, credit management, duty-free commodity traceability, smart management services, and risk prevention, according to Li Ziwei, director of the Economic Development Bureau of the Cooperation Zone.

Wang Zhongrui, director of the free trade division at Gongbei Customs in Zhuhai, said the customs will establish a smart system to implement efficient and scientific supervision for vehicles, equipment, people, goods, and items in the Cooperation Zone.
