On the evening of March 7, Facundo Fernandez Guerra, the Acting Consul General of Uruguay in Guangzhou, attended the awards ceremony of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race (Zhuhai) held in Zhuhai. "The opportunity for Uruguay and Zhuhai to exchange through the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is very precious," said Guerra. This was also his first visit to Zhuhai.
During the ceremony, Guerra met with the Uruguay Punta del Este crew who had been sailing on the sea for several months participating in the Clipper Race.
"Uruguay attaches great importance to developing exchanges and cooperation with Zhuhai, and we have been making full preparations for the event with Zhuhai Foreign Affairs Office(FAO)," Guerra said. Months in advance, the Consulate has conducted in-depth exchanges with the Zhuhai Foreign Affairs Office.
Sports and cultural exchanges are important parts of strengthening people-to-people ties between China and Uruguay. In Guerra's opinion, Zhuhai serves as an open window into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area（GBA）, with perfect urban infrastructure, convenient transportation, and a prosperous business atmosphere. The city's unique geographical advantages enable it to connect to Hong Kong and Macao special administration regions and make it a gateway for the Chinese market open to the world. He considered Zhuhai a city full of innovation and development potential，which can carry out rich exchanges and cooperation with Uruguay.
"I hope to further promote Uruguay's football culture to everyone and look for more cooperation with Zhuhai in football and other sports in the future," said Guerra after the game. "Friendly football activities like this are an important bridge for sports exchange and cooperation between both sides."
"I believe that after holding this promotional event in Zhuhai, it will bring more business opportunities and partners for both sides, and we also look forward to deepening understanding and strengthening exchanges with Zhuhai in more fields," Guerra added.
Jin Wei, Deputy Director of Zhuhai FAO, said that "we work together with the Uruguayan Consulate General in Guangzhou with the hope of using this new platform to further expand economic and trade cooperation, deepen understanding and friendship, and carry out more substantial cooperation between our two sides."
The event is aimed at promoting industrial cooperation and resource complementarity between Zhuhai and Uruguay, as well as tapping the potential of bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, culture, tourism, and sports. Both local and foreign businessmen, government departments, cultural and tourism organizations, and private groups have been invited to participate in the exchange.
