Shenzhen announced yesterday measures to promote the high-quality development of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs), in a bid to seize the opportunity of the restructuring of the automotive industry and promote the high-quality development of the auto industry.

The measures, jointly issued by eight government departments, aim to further improve the competitiveness of the city’s NEV and ICV industries, accelerate the realization of the auto technology level, application, and industrial scale among the top in the country, and to advance Shenzhen auto brands’ international competitiveness and influence.

The measures came as the new energy and ICV industries will become a key focus to seize the global new energy market under the background of the country’s “dual carbon” goals.

Shenzhen, with a solid foundation in NEV supply chain, as well as market scale and a sound business environment, is striving to build a new generation world-class auto city by gathering world-class technologies and top talents, according to the measures.

The measures were designed mainly to enhance the research and development of key technologies, build modern auto industry systems, improve the advanced manufacturing level of the auto industry, intensify the promotion of NEVs and ICVs, help enterprisesexpand domestic and overseas markets, and optimize the spatial layout of related industries.

Subsidies of up to 10 million yuan (US$1.4 million) will be allocated for breakthroughs in key areas including advanced power batteries, on-board cameras, high-precision maps and positioning, and intelligent cockpits.

Additionally, enterprises, institutions, and social organizations participating in formulating or revising domestic or foreign standards have a chance to receive a subsidy of up to 1 million yuan for each project.

Incentives are also available for hosting NEV and ICV-related international exhibitions, forums, competitions, and other activities that can bring positive industrial impacts, as per the measures.

The measures took effect yesterday and are valid for three years.
