On May 31, coinciding with the Dragon Boat Festival, a root-seeking summer camp commenced in Xinyi City, Maoming. A group of Malaysian Chinese youths gathered in Maoming to embark on a 10-day cultural and heritage exploration journey.
The event aims to create a bridge for overseas Chinese youths to understand Chinese culture. Since 2019, Maoming has successfully held three root-seeking winter camps, attracting over 80 overseas participants.
During the summer camp, attendees will visit historical and cultural sites such as the Shanshui Shuanghe Scenic Area in Xinyi and the Lady Xian Temple in Gaozhou. They will also participate in lectures on Confucian culture, woodcut art workshops, and dragon boat race observations to experience the charm of intangible cultural heritage.
Additionally, they will pay visits to the "Jinluntai" trading firm and the former residence of Li Xiaoshi to trace the struggles and achievements of early Chinese immigrants in Southeast Asia. "We hope this journey will foster a bond of friendship between China and Malaysia," said the event organizer.
