On October 22nd at 7:00 PM, the original HarmonyOS Night and Huawei's all-scenario new product launch conference kicked off in Shenzhen, themed "The stars are shining, let's see HarmonyOS together. The launch focused on the latest advancements and future plans for HarmonyOS NEXT (the native Harmony operating system) and showcased Huawei's latest achievements in operating systems and smart hardware. This is expected to create another wave of excitement in the tech industry.

HarmonyOS NEXT, an operating system developed independently by Huawei, completely abandons the Linux kernel and the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This allows for greater autonomy and control while deeply integrating AI technology to enhance system security. According to Huawei, HarmonyOS NEXT is set to be commercially launched in the fourth quarter of 2024.

At this year's Huawei Developer Conferencein June, HarmonyOS NEXT underwent its largest upgrade to date, with a comprehensive renewal across various aspects, including the kernel, file system, and AI framework. On October 8th, Huawei opened public testing applications for HarmonyOS NEXT, and applications from internet giants like Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu have already gone live. Yu Chengdong, Huawei Terminal BG CEO, stated, "We are making every effort to promote native Harmony applications, and over 1,500 popular applications have now been launched."

Besides, Huawei launched a native application developer incentive program, offering developers rewards of up to one million yuan in cash and five million yuan in traffic incentives. As of October 12th, hundreds of thousands of users have participated in the public testing of HarmonyOS NEXT. Mr. Chen, a user from Guangzhou, stated that the upgraded system runs smoothly, with core functions like WeChat and Alipay fully supported, and the privacy protection features are also significantly improved.

Gong Ti, President of Huawei Terminal BG Software Department, anticipates that by the end of this year, the number of native Harmony applications will exceed 100,000, further enhancing the ecosystem. Telecom expert Ma Jihua believes that with the launch of HarmonyOS for PC, HarmonyOS NEXT is likely to establish a three-way competition alongside iOS and Android, collectively driving transformation in the operating system market.
