Since its establishment as a trading town over 300 years ago, Chikan Ancient Town in Kaiping has flourished due to its waterways and later, thrived because of its overseas Chinese community, witnessing the glory of two prominent families and the profound hometown affection of overseas Chinese. In 2014, the ancient town embarked on a new journey of renovation and cultural tourism development, aiming to create a unique cultural town of overseas Chinese. Over the course of five years, the production team traveled across Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Boston of USA, meticulously capturing every moment from the humble charm of a bowl of claypot rice to the entire town's relocation and the birth of a scenic spot covering an area of 1.2 square kilometers. The three-episode, 30-minute documentary series revolves around three main themes: "Renovation of the Ancient Town and Cultural Tourism Development," "Patriotism and Hometown Affection of Overseas Chinese," and "Lu Xun Literature Prize winner Xiong Yuqun's Creation of 'Golden Town.'" Through the lively stories of dozens of characters, it vividly reproduces the legendary charm of Chikan Ancient Town.
