The 2025 Huazhou Huajuhong "Summer Fruit-Picking" festival kicked off on June 18 in Daling Village, Pingding Town, Maoming City.
Daling is also known as "China's No. 1 Huajuhong Village". The event celebrated the harvest of Huajuhong (citrus grandis or tomentose pummelo peel), a traditional Chinese medicinal ingredient, with farmers and visitors enjoying immersive picking experiences.
A highlight was the debut of "Huajuhong Babies" – two adorable mascots designed with fruit and leaf motifs, symbolizing the industry's youthful transformation. "This IP marks our push toward brand modernization after Huajuhong's inclusion in China's ‘medicine-food homology’ catalog last year," said Liao Zhilue, head of the Huazhou Huajuhong Industry Association.
With year-round themed activities—spring flower viewing, summer picking, autumn storage, and winter wellness—Huazhou is turning this ancient herb into a sustainable economic driver, boosting rural revitalization. The industry now spans about 21,844 acres, generating RMB 11.5 billion in annual output.
