On February 17, the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin issued a notice clarifying the requirements for people and vehicles leaving the Hengqin island in the "second-tier" zone. It lists the procedures for various types of passenger cars, buses, and trucks to leave Hengqin.
The area between Hengqin and other areas within the Chinese mainland is considered the "second-tier" zone, which has major channels including Hengqin Bridge, Hengqin Tunnel, Shenjing Passage, Shizimen Tunnel, Hengqin Terminal, Hengqin Station, and Chimelong Station of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Urban Rail Extension Line.
It is required to undergo customs inspection when leaving the island by cruise ship or car through Hengqin Terminal, Hengqin Station, and Chimelong Station of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Urban Rail Extension Line.
Regarding emergency rescue vehicles, they should be given priority for passing through the channels during opening hours. For those traveling from the Chinese mainland to the cooperation zone, the current regulations will continue to apply. The notice will take effect from the date when Hengqin implements closed customs operations on March 1.
Earlier this year, a number of policies on tariffs, taxes, and customs have been released to support the upcoming closed customs operations in Hengqin. These will also take effect from the date when Hengqin implements closed customs operations.
