On September 19, the AISL Harrow Rowing Regatta and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Series Hengqin Tinmuk Rowing Regatta were announced at a press conference held at the Harrow Li De School Hengqin.

The event is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 1 on the Tinmuk River in Hengqin, attracting rowing teams from nearly 20 elite universities from the Greater Bay Area and the world, including the University of Cambridge and Yale University.

Harrow School, founded in the UK, has a longstanding connection to the tradition of rowing. In 1829, two Harrow alumni initiated the race between Oxford and Cambridge universities, leading to the inaugural Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race and setting the stage for modern rowing competitions.

Since 2019, the Tinmuk Rowing Club has been hosting the esteemed Hengqin Elite Schools Rowing Invitation for several consecutive years, attracting participation from renowned institutions worldwide. This year, the club will also arrange pre-race exchanges between the rowing teams from Cambridge, Yale, and Macao universities.

The event will include a long-distance pursuit race, and the route has been designed to take participants past several iconic landmarks in Hengqin, including the Hengqin Culture and Arts Center, Macao New Neighborhood, Harrow Li De School Hengqin, and Tianmu Rowing Center.

At the press conference, Huang Yujie, Director of the Livelihood Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, expressed optimism about the increasing international recognition of Hengqin’s branding of rowing. He suggested that it has the potential to become an iconic feature that will represent the sports culture of the Greater Bay Area.
