Guangzhou's Yuexiu Park hosts Mid-Autumn Festival event

For the Mid-Autumn Festival, Guangzhou's Yuexiu Park launched a series of cultural events themed "Walls in Guangdong: Times in Yuexiu", featuring a special Mid-Autumn tour of the Ming Dynasty city walls. According to the park, the event will take place from September 15th to 17th, starting at 7:00 PM each night. Approximately 100 families will participate each evening.

On the evening of September 15th, over a hundred family groups will start from the Five-Goats Statue, holding creative lanterns and wearing Hanfu. They will walk along the historical path of the Ming Dynasty city walls for a journey through time. The Ming Dynasty city walls in Guangzhou are the most complete and longest surviving ancient city walls in Guangzhou. In January 2024, Yuexiu Park was officially approved as the 16th member of the International Ancient Walls and Castles Alliance.

In November of this year, the International Ancient Walls and Castles Alliance Conference will hold its annual meeting at Yuexiu Park in Guangzhou. The Mid-Autumn Festival tour of the Ming Dynasty city walls is one of the warm-up activities planned for the conference. Yuexiu Park will use the Ming Dynasty city walls as a central theme, connecting historical sites such as the Five-Goats Statue, Zhenhai Tower, Pavilion of Seamen, and Pavilion of Regaining. The event will integrate traditional folk experiences, allowing visitors to appreciate the rich history and cultural charm of Guangzhou over the past millennium.

During the event, children and parents will listen to guides recount the historical stories of the Ming Dynasty city walls, deeply appreciating the rich cultural heritage of the ancient walls and the unique charm of Guangzhou. At the base of the city walls and by the Dongxiu Lake, they can also enjoy traditional Mid-Autumn customs through activities such as a cultural market, traditional performances, and lantern riddles. Participants will immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere, experiencing the leisurely elegance of ancient times and sharing in the joy of the traditional festival.

Under the gentle moonlight, the ancient city walls exude timeless charm. Visitors can explore the city walls at Yuexiu Park, listen to stories, enjoy music and dance performances, read lantern riddles, and browse the market. They will experience the unique allure of the ancient city and enjoy a cultural journey that blends tradition with modernity.
