Guangdong has surpassed its goal of nurturing 2,000 'little giant' firms

Recently, China's provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and cities specifically designated in the state plan have been releasing their sixth batch of "little giant" firms for cultivation, as well as the third batch for re-evaluation. There are 3,012 "little giant" firms listed, which is a noticeable decrease compared to the previous batch. Among these, Jiangsu, Guangdong (including Shenzhen), and Zhejiang continue to lead in the number of firms selected nationwide.

According to the statistics, the top five provinces and municipalities with the highest number of selected firms are as follows: Jiangsu (711), Guangdong (561), Zhejiang (400), Beijing (271), and Shanghai (206). Compared to the fifth batch, Zhejiang and Beijing have seen an increase in the number of selected firms, and Shanghai's number has remained steady, while other provinces have experienced varying degrees of decline.

In 2023, the General Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province released a Guideline on the High-quality Development of Specialized and Sophisticated firms, aiming to nurture over 2,000 such firms by 2027. According to data from the Department of Industry and Information Technology Guangdong Province, by the end of 2023, Guangdong had already cultivated 1,528 of these firms. With the inclusion of recently selected firms, the province has exceeded its goal ahead of schedule.

Compared to the data from various provinces, the number of "little giant" firms in the five cities specifically designated in the state plan also consistently draws attention. Shenzhen leads with 298 firms in this batch, followed by Ningbo with 65, Qingdao with 29, Xiamen with 18, and Dalian with 14. Shenzhen had previously accumulated a total of 752 such firms across the first five batches. With the addition of the firms listed this time, the total number of these firms in Shenzhen has officially surpassed 1,000.

Besides Shenzhen, the "little giant" firms from Guangdong also include those from 15 other cities. Among them, Guangzhou ranks second with 104 firms, and Dongguan ranks third with 47.

"Little Giant" firms are top performers among small and medium-sized enterprises. They are leaders in their niche markets, known for strong innovation, high market share, mastery of key core technologies, and superior quality and efficiency.
