On November 3, the Sixth World Hakka Entrepreneurs Convention officially commenced at the World Hakka Entrepreneurs Center in Meizhou, Guangdong Province. More than 1,000 representatives from over 100 countries and regions attended this event, which, for the first time, had parallel sessions on five continents arranged.
The Sixth World Hakka Entrepreneurs Convention aims to gather Hakka businessmen to facilitate the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), advance the High-quality Development Project for Counties, Towns and Villages to boost rural revitalization and achieve the coordinated development between urban and rural areas in Guangdong, as well as accelerate Meizhou to keep up with the development of the GBA.
Record-high number of participants
"This Convention is a great platform for Hakka businessmen worldwide to engage in in-depth communication and seek cooperative opportunities. Today, I am so happy to find that many friends in the business community share a bond with me — Meizhou. We will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the future," said Pansy Ho Chiu-king, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Chairman of the Shun Tak Holdings, and Chairman and Executive Director of MGM China.
This year's event has seen new changes. The representatives who have participated in this convention are from 103 countries and regions, which has reached a new high and marked a 390.5 percent increase compared to the first edition in 2009.
Moreover, five parallel sessions took place in France (Europe), Canada (North America), Argentina (South America), Mauritius (Africa), and Australia (Oceania), to further enhance the global influence of the event.
As the hosting city for the Sixth World Hakka Entrepreneurs Convention, Meizhou has been hailed as the Hakka Capital of the World.
During these past three days, the Convention has featured a wide range of activities which included an opening ceremony, investment and trade fairs, academic forums, cultural promotional events, and sports competitions.
More focus on coordinated development in Meizhou
In the first three quarters of this year, Meizhou's GDP growth rate ranked the sixth in the province and the first among mountainous cities in Guangdong.
As of the end of October 2023, a total of 213 projects under High-quality Development Project for Counties, Towns and Villages have commenced or been put into operation across counties (cities and districts) as part of the Sixth World Hakka Entrepreneurs Convention. The total planned investment for these projects is 98 billion RMB, with a realized investment of 26.645 billion RMB.
