New rules issued to facilitate cross-border travels between Hengqin and Macao

On July 18, the National Immigration Administration announced new rules to facilitate border-crossing travel between Hengqin and Macao, which would be implemented today to expand the coverage of the existing joint immigration measures.

Under the new rules, business people and personnel working in tertiary educational institutions are allowed to drive across the border through immigration procedures conducted jointly by both Chinese mainland and Macao authorities.

The authorities also said that professionals engaged in joint exhibitions and events of both Hengqin and Macao would be entitled to a visa shortcut, which will also apply to participants.

In addition, based on the new rules, students with cross-border needs, the physically challenged, as well as senior citizens don’t have to get out of the vehicle to go through immigration procedures.
