Canton Fair powers global trade amid challenges

The 137th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is drawing to a close.

Over the past 20 days, hundreds of thousands of overseas buyers have gathered for this international trade event, witnessing China's firm steps in sharing opportunities worldwide and injecting strong momentum into the global economic recovery.

At a time when global trade faces severe challenges, the Canton Fair, acting as the "barometer" of China's foreign trade, remains vibrant.

"Although this is our first time participating in the Canton Fair, we have gained significantly," said Jiang Zhen, the exhibition director of Liaoning Zhaixiang Ecological Agriculture.

The company's main products, like germinated brown rice, possess great development potential in overseas markets.

During the exhibition, Zhaixiang received cooperation intentions from over 100 buyers from the United States, Europe, Japan, Africa and other regions.

"As a newcomer, we lacked preparation in certain aspects. In the future, we aim to exhibit products of even higher quality at the Canton Fair," Jiang added.

In the section dedicated to characteristic products for rural revitalization, Fusheng Gegen Industry Professional Cooperative from Honghe county, Yunnan province, marked its ninth appearance at the Canton Fair.

Wu Xia, the marketing director, said: "During this fair, we have met new customers from Europe, Africa, and Asia, laying a solid foundation for our products to accelerate their global journey and expand into broader international markets."

Chinese silk, once a prominent commodity on the ancient Silk Road, now reaches wider international markets through the Canton Fair. The production technique of tussah silk clothing, an intangible cultural heritage, embodies the essence of China's sericulture.

At the fair, the exquisite clothing of Liaoning Zha Silk garnered praise from numerous buyers from the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. "The international market's increasing demand for green and eco-friendly products, along with the growing global influence of traditional Chinese culture, presents a significant development opportunity for our products to expand globally," said Zhong Jun, the chairwoman.

She aspires to globally promote Liaoning's natural and green tussah silk through the Canton Fair, facilitating better communication and integration with various countries' national cultures worldwide.

To attract high-quality buyers, exhibitors not only display new products in the most prominent position of their booths but arrange transportation for them to visit factories.

"We have been importing goods from China since 2013 and have maintained a good cooperative relationship with Chinese enterprises," said Mikhail Terentev, a Russian purchaser.

"Nowadays, Chinese foreign trade enterprises attach greater importance to product quality and design concepts, and will continuously introduce new products according to customer requirements and the market demands of the export countries. We hope to find more competitive products at the Canton Fair, bringing new opportunities for our company's development," Terentev noted.

Junaid Sandal, a Pakistani purchaser, emphasized the Canton Fair's role in finding new suppliers and developing new products for their brand. "The fair is crucial for us to achieve these goals," Sandal remarked. "It vividly demonstrates China's sincere commitment to sharing development opportunities with the world."

The fair not only benefits overseas buyers but also facilitates global exhibitors gaining more business opportunities. This session continues to set up an import exhibition zone with about 1,600 booths, attracting 736 enterprises from 50 countries and regions.

Moreover, the fair has enhanced its service system, introducing new services to better cater to exhibitors and purchasers.

Tilneriber, an Italian purchaser, praised the efficiency of the certificate application process, which can be completed within a minute at self-service terminals. The fair introduced 100 self-service certificate printing terminals for the first time and 265 offline certificate application stations.

Its APP has also been upgraded, launching two versions for purchasers and suppliers respectively, providing more targeted services. "Through the intelligent APP system, I can search for products using pictures, completely subverting the traditional purchasing model," exclaimed Eliader, an Indian purchaser.

In addition, the Canton Fair, in collaboration with more than 100 professional institutions and leading enterprises, organized nearly 20 conference and forum activities covering pertinent enterprise topics.

Kilterelt, a New Zealand purchaser, attended the Canton Fair Design Innovation Forum, where he gained insights into the latest trends in colors, materials, and technologies. He also interacted with outstanding Chinese enterprises during the event.
