The "Challenge Cup" university competition at Dongguan Polytechnic concluded recently, showcasing a total of 41 awarded projects, including 7 special awards, 9 first prizes, 13 second prizes, and 12 third prizes.
The event highlighted the college's commitment to the high-quality development project for "Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns, and Ten Thousand Villages" in Guangdong, focusing on industrial upgrading and rural revitalization.
Among the standout entries, the special award-winning project titled "Dynamic Monitoring and Early Warning System for Fish Farming Based on Intelligent Computing" has made significant strides. The team developed an unmanned boat system that monitors water quality, issues warnings, and detects invasive species. This innovative solution has already benefited 23 aquaculture cooperatives across Guangdong province and has secured three independent intellectual property rights. Additionally, the project earned a silver medal at the 14th "Challenge Cup" Guangdong College Student Entrepreneurship Competition.
Another special award-winning initiative, "Creative Transformation and Innovative Development of Red Culture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," focused on local towns such as Chashan and Dalingshan. The team created two red culture intellectual property (IP) images and over 50 cultural and creative products, produced 15 promotional videos, and organized 23 public welfare art education activities. This project has also applied for two patents and was recognized as an "Outstanding Brand Project" in the Guangdong province's "Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns, and Ten Thousand Villages" initiative.
The project "Passing on the Flame: The Journey of Dongxiang Craftsmanship" involved visits to various locations in Dongguan and Maoming, where the team surveyed 1,236 individuals engaged in agarwood production. They systematically compiled the skills involved in this intangible cultural heritage and are promoting the standardization of agarwood crafting through the development of educational materials and competitions.
Impressively, 70 percent of this year's competition projects concentrated on key areas of the "Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns and Ten Thousand Villages" initiative, including rural revitalization, environmental beautification, and grassroots governance. The "Hundred Thousand School-Local Connection" mini-program, which was promoted during the competition, achieved a 100 percent registration rate and successfully paired several grassroots units with participating teams.
Looking ahead, the provincial "Challenge Cup" competition will take place in May at Zhaoqing University, introducing a special event focused on the large-scale high-quality development project, encouraging students to address the developmental needs of counties, towns, and villages. Over the past three years, Dongguan Polytechnic has secured six national-level awards and 50 provincial-level awards in the "Challenge Cup" series, maintaining a top-two position among vocational colleges in Guangdong.
