In the blazing summer sun, Tim Ramak, a foreigner living in Shenzhen, walked up to a newspaper kiosk downtown, looking for a cool bottle of water. But when he went to pay, out of his pocket came a stash of ancient coins, leaving the kiosk owner at a loss.
"Whaaat? It's 2023, not 1223! China has got so awesome payment systems. How'd you dig up these old coins?"Just then, Tim's buddy Crystal showed up and whipped out her phone to fix the mess.
Turns out, it was all a joke by Tim. But seriously, China's payment system is so advanced and friendly to foreigners these days. Opening a bank account is a breeze, and in Shenzhen, using foreign cards is as smooth as butter. Even when you need change, the banks give you a "change purse" with all the small denominations ready to go. Paying in China? It's like, "Piece of cake!"
