Heavy rainfall in Guangdong moves southward; Guangzhou may shower in rain till May 1

As of the morning of April 22, heavy rainfall affecting Guangdong had moved southward, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Service. Based on the existing meteorological data, it is expected that from April 22 to 23, some areas in Guangdong that have been relatively unaffected by heavy rainfall will also see heavy rain or more. Guangzhou may continue to under rains until May 1.

Detailed forecast:

For the rest of the day on April 22, cities and counties in western Guangdong, Pearl River Delta, and eastern Guangdong will see heavy rain with isolated downpours. Shaoguan and Qingyuan will have light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rain, and other cities and counties in the province will see heavy to torrential rainfall, with the possibility of isolated downpours.

On April 23, cities and counties in southern Guangdong will have moderate to heavy rain showers, while the rest will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers.

On April 24, the central and eastern cities and counties of Guangdong will experience showers to heavy rain with the chance of isolated torrential rain, while the rest of the province will see light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rainfall.

From April 25 to 27, Guangdong is expected to have heavy to torrential rainfall.

According to the Guangdong Meteorological Service, cities and counties in southern Guangdong will continue to see heavy rainfall from the rest of April 22 to 23, and the cumulative precipitation can reach locally heavy rain. From the topographic analysis, many places in southwestern and southeastern Guangdong have hilly terrains. When the cumulative rainfall in these places is too large, geological disasters such as mountain torrents that have taken place in northern Guangdong will also occur.

Therefore, meteorological experts remind that the disaster prevention work should not only be done in northern Guangdong but also in the cities and counties in the southern areas where the terrain is relatively flat. The locals should pay attention to the prevention of wind and rain-related geological disasters.

Residents in Guangdong are advised to pay attention to prevent the risk of high-altitude working facilities, factory sheds, temporary structures, outdoor billboards, and tree collapse caused by lightning strikes and short-time winds. Heavy precipitation is prone to bring visual obstacles and flooded roads, so please pay attention to driving safety since the risk of traffic accidents increases.
