Discover Dongguan’s top universities

On June 25, the Education Examinations Authority of Guangdong Province announced the entry scores for each batch of universities for the 2024 college entrance examination. With the scores released, students are now beginning to choose their preferred cities and universities to embark on their four-year journey. Let’s explore some of the top universities in Dongguan.

1.City University of Hong Kong(Dongguan)

City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), also known as CityU(DG), is a public research university located in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It upholds the "teaching-research synergy" philosophy of the City University of Hong Kong, ensuring the same academic standards across both campuses. 

The university offers innovative programs designed to cultivate talent and features four undergraduate majors in Computer Science and Technology, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Energy and Power Engineering. Additionally, it offers ten master's programs including Computer Science, Electronic Information Engineering, and Data Science.

CityU (DG) plans to enroll 125 students nationwide, with 43 spots reserved for Guangdong. Students from various provinces including Beijing, Sichuan, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Guangxi, Hubei, and Henan can apply, with specific numbers determined by local education authorities.

2.Dongguan University of Technology

Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT) is the first general undergraduate university in Dongguan, with Nobel Laureate Dr. Yang Zhenning as its honorary president. The university is part of several prestigious programs, including the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and the "New Engineering Research and Practice Project." It is recognized as a high-level university of science and technology in Guangdong Province and is involved in numerous national and international collaborations.

It spans two campuses, Songshan Lake and Guancheng, covering an area of 2,200 mu. DGUT has over 1,865 faculty members and offers 62 undergraduate programs, with a collection of over 2 million books.

3.Guangdong Medical University (Dongguan Campus)

Guangdong Medical University, originally established as the Zhanjiang Branch of Zhongshan School of Medicine in 1958, was renamed in 2016. The university covers nearly 2,900 mu across its Zhanjiang and Dongguan campuses. The Dongguan campus, established in 2002, is located in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

This year, the university will enroll students in 36 undergraduate programs, with a total admission plan of 5,500 students, including 4,646 from Guangdong Province.

4.Guangdong University of Science and Technology

Founded in 2003, Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GDUST) is an institution focused on engineering while also offering programs in management, economics, literature, and arts. It has two campuses in Nancheng and Songshan Lake, covering over 2,000 mu.

In 2011, it was upgraded to a bachelor's degree-granting institution, received bachelor’s degree authorization in 2015, and was included in the master’s degree-granting construction units and approved to set up a doctoral workstation in 2021. GDUST has over 35,000 full-time students across 11 secondary colleges.

5.Dongguan City University

Dongguan City University is a private undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education. It offers 46 undergraduate programs and boasts 120 professional laboratories, 256 off-campus teaching practice bases, and 24 on-campus research institutions. The university has nearly 1,000 faculty members. It features prominent programs in Business Administration, Finance, Software Engineering, and International Economics and Trade.

6.Dongguan Polytechnic College

Dongguan Polytechnic College, sponsored by the Dongguan Municipal People's Government, is a full-time vocational college. It is recognized as a demonstration vocational college in Guangdong Province. It has three campuses in Songshan Lake, Dalingshan, and Daojiao, covering a total area of 750,900 square meters. The college offers 58 vocational programs across 15 academic departments.

As of March, 2024, the college has one national-level high-level program, seven provincial high-level programs, and several key and branded programs. It has established numerous practice and training bases.

7.Guangdong Innovative Technical College

Approved by the Guangdong Provincial Government, Guangdong Innovative Technical College is a full-time vocational college. The college occupies 1,213,400 square meters, with a total building area of 515,200 square meters. The college comprises eight secondary colleges offering 66 vocational programs.

The college has developed several provincial-level key and brand programs. The college is known for its e-sports program, a first in the province, and hosts various high-level training bases and research projects.

8.Guangdong College of Hotel Management

Specializing in hotel management and modern service industry training, Guangdong College of Hotel Management is a key construction project during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period in Guangdong.

The college covers 908 mu with a main building area of 520,000 square meters. The college offers 36 vocational programs, with plans to enroll students in 29 programs in 2024.
