Shenzhen’s GDP up 3.3% year on year

Shenzhen saw its gross domestic product (GDP) reach nearly 3.24 trillion yuan (US$477.4 billion) in 2022, up 3.3% year on year, according to the municipal statistics bureau Saturday.

The total added value of the city’s industrial enterprises above designated size exceeded 1 trillion yuan for the first time in 2022. The city’s gross industrial output value above designated size reached about 4.55 trillion yuan in 2022.

Additionally, the added value of the city’s seven strategic emerging industries (20 industrial clusters) topped 1.3 trillion yuan, accounting for over 40% of the city’s GDP. Among them, six industrial clusters including intelligent connected vehicles, new materials, new energy, software and information services, high-end medical devices and the marine economy maintained a double-digit growth last year.

The data released by the municipal statistics bureau also showed the output of new energy vehicles, charging piles, civil drones and 5G smartphones grew by 183.4%, 113.8%, 34.7% and 22.3% respectively in 2022.

At the same time, Shenzhen’s fixed asset investment saw an 8.4% growth rate year on year in 2022, ranking first among the country’s first-tier cities.

In 2022, investments in the city’s manufacturing industry increased by 15.4% while investments in the secondary and tertiary industries went up by 19.3% and 6.2%, respectively.

The total retail sales of consumer goods in the city reached nearly 970.83 billion yuan in 2022, up 2.2% year on year. Also, the online sales volumes achieved by enterprises above designated size grew by 20.9%, fueled by the stay-at-home economy.

The city’s total volume of imports and exports stood at 3.67 trillion yuan last year, up 3.7% year on year. Exports hit 2.19 trillion yuan in 2022, up 13.9% while imports dropped by 8.5%, reaching about 1.48 trillion yuan last year.
