Come and experience the romance of the Qixi Festival at Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum

As the Qixi Festival or Chinese Valentine's Day approaches, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is set to launch a series of immersive events to celebrate this romantic occasion. On the day of the festival, visitors can enjoy an array of engaging activities, including interactive Cantonese opera experience, Fengxi ceramics crafting experience, intangible cultural heritage challenges, traditional Cantonese wedding exhibitions, and love-themed Cantonese opera excerpts, all allowing you to delve into the unique romance of Cantonese culture.

Upon entering the museum, you'll be greeted by an eye-catching "Magpie Bridge." From August 3rd to 9th, the seventh visitor entering the museum each day will have a special opportunity to "add bricks and tiles" to this symbolic bridge under the guidance of the staff, contributing to the construction of the bridge.

On the very day of the Qixi Festival, which falls on August 10th this year, the "Magpie Bridge" photo spot will feature a photographer who will capture memorable moments for visitors, offering them the chance to receive free Polaroid snapshots.

Moreover, the museum will present interactive experiences showcasing the traditional craftsmanship of Fengxi ceramics and Cantonese opera performances. Join in on the ceramic crafting activity, where skilled practitioners will guide you through the process of shaping clay into beautiful porcelain floral pieces, you are allowed to create your own romantic keepsake.

The innovative Cantonese opera film "The Legend of the White Snake: Love" has gained profound attention, bringing more enthusiasm for Cantonese opera to the community. To further this engagement, the museum has curated an immersive Cantonese opera experience area where you can experience Cantonese opera costume makeup, water sleeve techniques, and the essential skills of performance.

Sign up for the interactive intangible heritage challenges featuring four engaging checkpoints: Guangdong paper cutting, the craftsmanship of traditional hardwood furniture, the creation of Danxia red bean accessories, and Guangzhou tea art (creating tea art in cups, or dian cha). Together, let's build a romantic connection through these traditions.

At the museum, the lively Cantonese matchmaking performances will elevate the atmosphere, filling the air with sweetness, while a traditional Cantonese wedding ceremony exhibition will immerse you in the customs of "Cantonese-style" marriage.

Once you've enjoyed these delightful activities, take a leisurely stroll along the Bai'etan Lake to witness the breathtaking sunset over the Pearl River. As night falls, gather at the intangible heritage theater to enjoy love-themed performances of Cantonese opera excerpts, including "The Legend of the White Snake: Love."
