A large international textile and garment exhibition kicked off in Shantou, Guangdong province, on Thursday, with a series of intentional procurement contracts reaching a total worth of billions of yuan.

Shantou, a coastal city in eastern Guangdong, produces approximately 45 percent of the country's lingerie and home wear, with branded products accounting for over 75 percent of the categories in the national market, according to the China National Textile and Apparel Council.

The 3rd China Chaoshan International Textile and Garment Exhibition, with an exhibition area of 100,000 square meters, aims to further accelerate its dominant market position in this field by attracting more than 800 companies to showcase their latest technologies and products.

The exhibition covers a wide range of products, including yarn, fabrics, bras, underwear, home wear, sweaters, shapewear, thermal underwear, knitwear, camisoles, socks, maternity and children's clothing, sports underwear, yoga wear, and equipment.

Also, 32 domestic and overseas companies have signed intentional procurement agreements worth 16.3 billion yuan ($2.25 billion) with over 20 local textile and garment enterprises, according to the event organizers.

"Developing green productivity characterized by low carbon emissions and resource efficiency should be prioritized for local lingerie and home wear enterprises to create green economic momentum," said Xu Yingxin, vice chairman of the China National Textile and Apparel Council.

With the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce, green products, manufacturing technologies and low-carbon sustainability in the textile and garment industry will become key factors in building core competitiveness, according to Xu.

"We are promoting new products with cutting-edge technologies during the exhibition, aiming to attract more business partners," said Zhou Xuze, chairman of Huamei Fashion Group.

New products displayed by the Shantou-based company included intimate wear that incorporates traditional Chinese medicine and culture, according to Zhou.

"Green lingerie integrated with traditional Chinese culture will be favored in the market," said Zhou. The company has developed more than 3,000 fashionable lingerie showrooms nationwide, with sales being extended to Southeast Asia and South America.
