July 17 is the third day of Chufu, the first ten-day period of the Chinese dog days of summer (Sanfu). While the province bakes under scorching heat, some cities and counties are going to experience rainstorms again in the next three days.
Will the heat be dissipated by the rain? The answer is no. Weather forecast shows that the highest temperature will reach 37 degrees Celsius in some parts of Guangdong on July 19. And there will be short-lived gale winds accompanying the localized thunderstorms.
Guangzhou is no exception. Although the temperature will still fluctuate between 26 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, there will be showers and heavy rains in the early morning or late afternoon in the following days.
Earlier this morning (July 17), China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a yellow alert for high temperature, an orange alert for rainstorms, and a blue alert for severe convection weather.
During the 40-day Sanfu, three things should be prioritized: preventing heatstroke, using sunscreen, and being prepared for unexpected thunderstorms during the day. Here’s the guide to stay cool in summer: (click the link: Heat wave keeps sweeping Guangdong; ways to help you stay cool).
