Guangdong is a province with rich biodiversity. It has made consistent efforts in protecting animals and plants and their habitats. So far, 1,361 nature reserves have been built in Guangdong, ranking first in China.
According to the latest statistics, Guangdong has recorded 1,018 species of wild terrestrial vertebrate animals, and 254 species of them are included in the List of National Key Protected Wildlife. Guangdong has also recorded 6,658 species of wild higher plants, of which 161 are on the List of National Key Protected Wildlife.
