Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station generates over 50b kilowatt-hours of electricity in a year

Since the commercial operation of its first unit on March 25th, 2014, Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station, owned by CGN Power, has cumulatively generated 338.586 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. In 2023, it became the first nuclear power station in China whose annual power generation exceeded 50 billion kilowatt-hours, providing green energy for the sustainable development of the GBA.

Following the commercial operation of its first unit in March 2014, all six units of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station were put into commercial operation in 2019. In 2023, the average capacity factor of the power station reached 94.8%, setting a new record since its full commercial operation. 82% of the WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) indicators of the entire station reached advanced global levels, and the comprehensive indices of the six units all scored full marks.

Zhao Fuming, President of CGN Yangjiang Nuclear Power Co.,Ltd.,revealed that as the nuclear power station with the highest number of approved units in China, the construction of the six units at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station serves as a typical model of high-quality development in China's nuclear power technology, which lays a solid foundation for the development of "Hualong One",the domestically developed third-generation nuclear reactor technology with independent intellectual property rights.

Zhao Fuming further disclosed that Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station has also improved its cluster management mode, to invigorate new momentum for safety production. In recent years, the production command center and major overhaul management center have been successively put into operation, forming the first fully operational platform for cluster management in China's nuclear power industry.

In 2023, the power generation of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station reached 50.033 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 12.3% of the country's annual on-grid energy, making it the highest-producing nuclear power station in terms of installed capacity and power generation. Moreover, it is now the first nuclear power station to exceed an annual power generation of 50 billion kilowatt-hours.

By the end of 2023, Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station had cumulatively generated 338.586 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, achieving a reduction of coal consumption by over 100 million tons compared to a coal-fired power plant of the same scale. Additionally, it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 279 million tons, which is equivalent to afforestation covering approximately 761,800 hectares, about 95% of the area of Yangjiang City.
